Biography
Dr. Xiaowei Shen is currently the director of IBM Research – China as well as the CTO of IBM GCG. Prior to his China assignment, Dr. Shen worked as a researcher at the IBM T.J. Watson Research Center. Dr. Shen received his PhD degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and his Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the University of Science and Technology of China. His research interests include computer architectures, software and hardware co-design, distributed computing, Big Data, Internet-of-Things, and innovations for Cognitive Computing and Cloud Platform. Through the power of open innovation partnerships both at home and abroad, IBM Research – China is committed to facilitating technological innovations that can enable rapid business development and positive social growth. Our research endeavors include cognitive technologies and their applications in the age of Big Data, Cloud Computing platforms and infrastructures, and the Internet-of-Things (IoT). Additionally, we are conducting research innovations for the next generation of information technology in industries such as energy, environment, health, and finance.
