Biography
Helen W. Boucher, MD, FIDSA, is associate professor of medicine at Tufts University School of Medicine. She is the director of the Infectious Diseases Fellowship Program at Tufts Medical Center, where she also serves as director of the Ventricular Assist Device and Heart Transplant Infectious Diseases Program in the Division of Geographic Medicine and Infectious Diseases. Dr. Boucher’s clinical interests include infections in immunocompromised patients with an emphasis on transplant-related bacterial and fungal infections and HIV virus as well as S. aureus infections. Her research interests include antimicrobial drug development, S. aureus infection, fungal infections, infections in immunosuppressed patients, and infections related to cardiac assist devices. A recipient of the Society Citation in 2015 for her many contributions to IDSA’s efforts to promote the development of new antimicrobial agents, Dr. Boucher has served on several IDSA committees and task forces, including the Antimicrobial Availability Task Force/Antimicrobial Resistance Committee, the Research Committee, the Task Force on ID Recruitment, and the Board of Directors. In 2015, she was appointed to the Presidential Advisory Council on Combating Antibiotic-resistant Bacteria. She is also a member of the American Board of Internal Medicine’s Test Committee and Subspecialty Board on Infectious Diseases. A graduate of the University of Texas Medical School, Dr. Boucher completed her internship, residency, and chief residency at New England Deaconess Hospital and her clinical and research fellowships in infectious diseases at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.
