Biography

Eric Horlait, a lecturer at the Pierre and Marie Curie University on secondment at Inria, has been appointed Director of Technology Transfer and Innovation with effect from 1st December 2013 then Deputy CEO for Transfer and Industrial Partnership one year later. Having previously worked at the Tutor Group, a private commercial group specialising in the installation of optical fibre networks of which he was the general manager, Eric Horlait now becomes the Institute's new Deputy CEO for Transfer and Industrial Partnership. The holder of a doctorate in Information Technology from the University of Paris XI and of a doctorate in Science from the University of Paris VI, Eric Horlait started his career as a Computer Engineer before turning to higher education in the early 1980s. From 1980 to 1982 he was initially a lecturer at ENST, Paris. He then joined the Pierre and Marie Curie University, where he was a lecturer until 1989, and then a senior lecturer until 2004. During this time he was also the Director of the Pierre and Marie Curie University's Computer Science Research Unit from 1992 to 1994. From 1997 to 2000 he was a scientific advisor to Alcatel, while at the same time being the Assistant Director of the LIP6 (CNRS UMR 7606) research laboratory until 1999. He then became the Director of this laboratory until 2004, leaving to occupy the post of administrator of "Paris Développement", an agency for economic development in Paris. In the year 2000 Eric Horlait tried his hand at entering the world of start-ups with the QosMos company, of which he became Technical Director in 2004. He left this company in late 2007 and sold all his shares in early 2008, when he joined Afone, of which he was Managing Director from 2008 to 2010. Returning to the Pierre and Marie Curie University, he directed technology transfer projects in SATT Lutech, a semi-public technology transfer accelerator company, until 2011, when he joined the Tutor Group.
