Biography

Prof. Zhu-Jun Yao received his Bachelor degree with honors from Fudan University in 1990, and Ph.D. degree under supervision of Prof. Yu-Lin Wu from Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry (SIOC), Chinese academy of Sciences (CAS) in 1995. He worked as a NIH Fogarty International Visiting Fellow with Dr. Terrence R. Burke at National Cancer Institute, NIH (USA) for three years, before he joined the faculty team at SIOC in September 1999. He was appointed as a full Professor and Principle Investigator at SIOC in November 1999 until he moved to Nanjing University as a Cyrus Tang Professor in September 2008. Prof. Yao has authored and co-authored more than 120 research papers in the peer-reviewed journals and 18 patents, 4 books and 15 chapters. He received quite a number of famous funds and awards in the past ten years, including the second class Natural Science Prize of CAS, NSFC Outstanding Youth Award, CAS Hundred Talent Program Award, Leading Talents of Shanghai Municipal, CCS-BASF Youth Innovation Award, Thieme Chemistry Journal Award, etc. Prof. Yao is a council member of Chinese Chemical Society (CCS), and Chairman of Division of Chemical Biology of CCS. He serves as a National Representative of China in the International Union of Applied and Pure Chemistry since 2008. He is also a member of NSFC Supervision Committee and a member of a Specialist of Reviewing Committee of NSFC Division of Chemical Sciences.

Research Interest

Prof. Yao’s present research interests focused on chemical biology of natural products, including development of synthetic methodology, total synthesis of natural product, medicinal development of bioactive natural products from Traditional Chinese Medicines, and chemical biology research utilizing natural products-based small molecule probes.
