Biography
Mr. Ming Cheng Chien was born in Shanghai in 1955. He received his undergraduate and graduate educations in chemical engineering in the U.S.A. He started his professional career in the U.S.A. in 1986 as a process engineer and subsequently held various technical and managerial positions with increasing responsibilities. In 2002, with Basell, he was expatriated to Milan, Italy as General Manager - Licensing and New Ventures - Asia Pacific, taking responsibilities for quite a number of technology licensing and joint venture projects in the region. In 2008, Mr. Chien joined LANXESS as Managing Director of LANXESS Buna GmbH in Marl, Germany for the business of synthetic rubber EPDM. After the acquisition of DSM’s Elastomers, B.V. in May 2011, Mr. Chien additionally took over the position as COO LANXESS Elastomers B.V. in Geleen, the Netherlands, responsible for the merged EPDM business with four production sites globally. In September 2012, LANXESS broke ground in Changzhou, China for a new EPDM production facility, strengthening further its worldwide leading position. In February 2013, Mr. Chien was relocated back to Shanghai, taking over the responsibility as CEO LANXESS Greater China for this increasingly important market of the global business. In April of 2016, LANXESS and Saudi Aramco launched a joint venture company, ARLANXEO, for synthetic rubber businesses. Mr. Chien additionally took up the role of Managing Director for ARLANXEO in China as well.
