Biography
Dr. Yu Shang is currently a professor of Biomedical Engineering at the North University of China. Prior to this position, Dr. Shang was a postdoctoral scholar/fellow and a research scientist at the University of Kentucky, U.S.A. He received a B.S. in Applied Mathematics (1999) and a M.S. in Biomedical Engineering (2004) both from Jilin University, China. Thereafter, he received a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering (2008) from Tsinghua University, China. Dr. Shang's current research interests focus on the development of near-infrared diffuse optical spectroscopy (NIRS) and diffuse correlation spectroscopy (DCS) for noninvasive assessment of microvasculature blood flow/oxygenation/oxygen metabolism in biological tissues. His research work is clinically motivated and endeavors for early detection and therapeutic evaluation of a variety of diseases, including stroke, fibromyalgia and cancer. To this end, Dr. Shang has authored 39 peer-reviewed journal articles and presented his works in national/international conferences. Additionally, Dr. Shang serves as an editorial board member/guest editor for 4 journals and a reviewer for 14 journals.

His main research interests include • Biomedical Optics: Near infrared diffuse optical spectroscopy (NIRS)/diffuse correlation spectroscopy (DCS) for tissue blood flow/oxygenation detection • Computing Techniques: Finite element analysis (FEA); Analysis and solution for ill-conditioned matrix • Physiological Modeling: Mathematical modeling of oxygen kinetics in skeletal muscles during exercise, for early assessment of skeletal muscle diseases such as fibromyalgia • Image Analysis Techniques: Segment and registration of medical Image, 3D image reconstruction and visualization
