Dr Xu is engaged in system safety theory and safety technology, safety of biomass energy, system safety design, hazard identification and control & assessment, working environment occupational hazard control, emergency rescue and evacuation, system reliability etc. He won the second prize of national safety production of scientific and technological achievements, the first prize of Shandong metallurgical science and technology progress prize, the second prize of excellent teaching achievement prize of Liaoning province. Dr Xu authored two college textbooks of Safety Management, Safety Ergonomics, and more than 90 papers. Dr Xu is also awarded as follows: Key member of the Outstanding Young Teacher of Liaoning province, Advanced Individual of Industry-university-research United Work of Liaoning province, Excellent Homeroom Teacher of Liaoning province, Shenyang Excellent Science Workers, Shenyang Safety Production Advanced Workers.
