Biography

Dr. Tao XU obtained his PhD at Northeastern University, China in 2005 and his Masters and Bachelor degrees at Henan Polytechnic University (HPU), China in 2001 and 1998, respectively. After that, he worked as a faculty member at Dalian University, China for about 8 years and then moved to Northeastern University, China in 2013 as an associate professor and he was promoted as professor in 2014. He paid an academic visit to City University of Hong Kong for a period of 6 months from Aug 2002 to Feb. 2003 as a research assistant. He obtained Swiss Federal Scholarship and made an academic visit to Laboratory of Rock Mechanics, EPFL, Switzerland with Prof. Zhao Jian for one year from July 2008 to July 2009 and made a visit to LMR, EPFL again for a period of two months in 2010. He made a visit to Monash Univesity, Australia and performed cooperative research with Dr. Ranjith for six months from Oct. 2012 to April 2013 under the sponsor of Australia Endeavour Research Awards, and paid a visit to Université de Strasbourg, France for two weeks under the sponsor of PHC-Xuguangqi program. Tao is actively participating in professional activities and he has been invited to review papers for international journals such as Fuel, Energy, Journal of Geophysical Research, International Journal of Rock Mechanics and Mining Sciences, Composites Part B, International Journal of Geomechanics, Tunnelling and Underground Space Technology, Environmental Earth Sciences, Structural Engineering Mechanics, International Journal of Energy Research, Arabian Journal of Geosciences, Zeitschrift fur Naturforschung A.

Rock mechanics and engineering, Rock seepage mechanics, Coal mining induced gas outbursts, Stability of underground workings, Strata movement, subsidence, slope stability, Acoustic emission and micro-seismicity monitoring, Computer applications in mining/geotechnical engineering, Hydraulic fracturing and associated hydro-mechanical coupling
