Zhitao Yuan

Biography

Dr. Zhitao Yuan, is director of Mineral Engineering Institute and Professor of mineral processing at Northeastern University, and honored by China’s Ministry of Education as one of the New Century Excellent Talents. He graduated in Mineral Processing from Northeastern University in 1992, obtained M.Sc. degree and Ph.D. degree in mineral processing in 1995 and 2001 respectively. Prof. Yuan is involved in doing research in the high-efficient beneficiation of metallic ores, as well as the elaborate preparation of mineral materials and ultrafine powder. As for the research scope of high-efficient ore-dressing, the investigation of magnetic separation technique and the exploitation of magnetic separator are covered. As followed are the magnetic equipments have been patented, e.g. a digital pulse demagnetizer, a magnetic column with pulsating vibration magnetic field, a high-intensity magnetic roller separator with permanent-magnet suited for the pre-concentration of hematite ore, and a permanent-magnet high-gradient magnetic separator. In addition, the respective dry pre-concentration craft for fine barren magnetite and barren hematite ores after comminuted by high-pressure grinding roller have been developed associated with a patented dry vibrating magnetic separator. As the principal investigator, he was responsible for one project supported by Natural Science Foundation of China, one by the Fundamental Research Funds for the Central Universities, and one sub-project by National High Technology Research and Development Program of China (863 Program). Besides, he participated in other more than 30 projects. Prof. Yuan has published more than 100 academic papers, and 2 monographs, i.e. Magnetic and High-tension Separation, and Resources Sustainability Utilization Technology, and also co-authored other 3 monographs such as Technology and Equipment of Mineral Processing in Contemporary World, et al. Prof. Yuan teaches the courses of Technology of Separation of Solid Materials for undergraduate students and Magnetic System and Magnetic Circuit Design for graduate students, and supervises the internship for junior undergraduate in magnetic separation plant and graduation design of senior undergraduate.
