Biography

Dr. Jiarui Wu graduated from Department of Biology of Sun Yat-sen University in Guangzhou in 1982, received a master degree from Institute of Genetics of Chinese Academy of Sciences in Beijing in 1985 and a doctor degree from Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich in 1994. He was a postdoctoral fellow in Dept. of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, S.U.N.Y. Health Science Center in Syracuse, USA from 1994-1997. Since then, he become a professor in Shanghai Institute of Biochemistry in Chinese Academy of Sciences in Shanghai.

Research Interest

During his overseas study, Prof. Wu was dedicated to the research of cell cycle and DNA replication initial control mechanism. Prof. Wu’s Lab has concentrated on the structure and function of molecular networks for cell fate determination among cell differentiation, cell proliferation and apoptosis, also applying this strategy on the mechanism of the complex diseases such as cancer and diabetes. Prof. Wu's ongoing project is to identify biomarkers in order to detect the progress stages of the diabetes. His team has developed systematic approaches based on proteomics and bioinformatics to analyze human normal and diabetic serum. In addition, Prof. Wu is leading the team to analyze the genetic and environmental factors and their interactions during the progressing of the type 2 diabetes with systems-biology approaches.
