Her dissertation examines the strategic conditions that drive entrepreneurial innovators to pursue novel innovation rather than innovation that is closer to existing technologies, in the context of the Orphan Drug Act (ODA). Related to this, she analyses the effect of ODA on the investment strategies of venture capitals in the way that supports breakthrough innovation in a long term, rather than investing in incremental innovations in a short term. In another project, she examines the effect of investment from Chinese investors on the structure of the Korean Drama industry as well as the growth of entrepreneurial contents providers such as drama production studios. Lastly, she compares the interplay between private venture capitals (VCs) and corporate venture capitals (CVCs) , in order to see how corporations leverage their capabilities to form an ecosystem surrounding a new technology as well as learn from market through CVC activities.
