Biography
Avraham Parola is Visiting Professor of Biophysical Chemistry and Director of Natural Sciences at NYU Shanghai. Prior to joining NYU Shanghai, he was professor of biophysical chemistry and the Carol and Barry Kaye Chair in Applied Science as well as former dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and chairman of the Department of Chemistry at Ben Gurion University, Israel. Parola was a visiting professor at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New York, New York; Naval Medical Research Institute, Bethesda, Maryland; Dana Farber Cancer Institute at Harvard Medical School, Boston, Massachusetts; and GE R&D Center, Schenectady, New York. Parola’s scientific research has been published in many journals; the most recent are in cell death apoptosis, necrosis and autophagy, determination of drugs in body fluids (clinical diagnostics) and poisons in water resources (homeland security) without reagents, the quaternary structure of enzymes and their cold inactivation, bioelectromagnetics, noninvasive determination of fetal lung maturity, and antiangiogenic drugs and membrane dynamics in malignant cell transformation. He is presently a member of European Cooperation in Science and Technology.
