Jeong Min Kim

Biography

Jeong Min Kim is a Global Perspectives on Society Teaching Fellow at NYU Shanghai. She is joining the program from New York University (New York City) where she received her PhD in May 2017. She has taught Core Curriculum courses as well as East Asian and History major seminars as a teaching assistant while pursuing her doctoral study. As a gender historian of modern Korea with comparative perspectives, her research and teaching interests include gender and sexuality, global militarism and capitalism, political economy, and transnational history of war and base. She is currently working on turning her dissertation, “Intimate exchanges: Korean women, American GIs, and the making of the wartime political economy of South Korea during the Korean War,” into a book manuscript. Her work has been supported by the Truman Library Institute, NYU’s Center for the U.S. and the Cold War and the Provost’s Global Research Initiatives, among others. Recently, she won the Gender & History Journal’s best graduate paper prize at the 2017 triennial Berkshire Conference of Women Historians.
