Rebecca Ehrenwirth

Biography

Rebecca Ehrenwirth is a Global Perspective on Society Teaching Fellow at NYU Shanghai. Prior to joining NYU Shanghai, she was a Research Assistant at Ludwig-Maximilians- University (LMU) in Munich (Germany) at the Institute for Sinology and at the Institute for English Literature. She holds a Ph.D. in Sinology from LMU, and an M.A. (Magister) in Sinology, English Literature, and Chinese Art & Archaeology from LMU. Rebecca’s research interests are Sinophone Literature, Postcolonial Studies and Contemporary Chinese Art and Film. Her dissertation on Contemporary Sinophone Literature in Thailand (Zeigenössische sinophone Literatur in Thailand) is a comparison of short-stories and poems by two sinophone writers from Thailand. It analyzes the perception of ethnic Chinese in Southeast Asian an era of rising nationalism and gives a broad overview of the development of sinophone literature in Thailand. Her publications include one article on English Literature in Hong Kong “Floating Boarders Within a Text: Hong Kong Literature in English” (2014), an article on Chinese Identity in sinophone Literature “‘漂泊身份’？－论 当代泰华文学中的归属感” (2016), and a biography on Jane Austen By a Lady: Das Leben der Jane Austen (2017).
