He is also a professor at Ben-Gurion University and has been a Harvard University Fellow (1991-1992). He also ran the Israel Science Foundation Center of Excellence (2003-2007). He holds a PhD from the University of Chicago. Band’s research interests include collision theory; light scattering; nonlinear-optics, electro-optics, and quantum-optics; laser physics and chemistry; electronic transport properties of matter; molecular dissociation; and thermodynamics. He is the author of Light and Matter: Electromagnetism, Optics, Spectroscopy and Lasers, published by John Wiley & Sons and Quantum Mechanics with Applications to Information-Science and Nanotechnology, coauthored with Y. Avishai, published by Elsevier (Academic Press). He is the author of about 250 scientific publications and he holds numerous patents. Band was awarded the Barecha Fund Fellowship for Outstanding Young Scientists (1978), the Allied-Signal Inventor Award (1988), the Japanese Society for the Promotion of Science Fellowship (1997), and the BGU Rector’s Prize for Excellence in Research (2006) and was appointed to the Snow Chair in Nanotechnology in 2007. He is a member of the Israel Physical Society and the Israel Chemical Society and was elected a Fellow of the American Physical Society in 1996.
