Xu Bugong

Biography

Xu Bugong born in Dec. 1956 in Liaoning Province, he is the Dean and a Professor at the School of Automation Science and Engineering of South China University of Technology (SCUT), and is currently heading a team at the Lab. Of the Real-Time Control Through Networks in the same school. His current research interests include theory and applications of wireless sensor networks and networked control systems. From Mar. 1972 to Aug. 1982, he worked in Yueyang Petro-Chemical General Factory in Hunan Province. During that period, he studied in SCUT for four years, majoring in Automation and Instrumentation, and got his Bachelor degree of engineering in 1982. From Sept. 1982 till now, he has been teaching in the School of Automation Science and Engineering of SCUT. During this time, he studied part time in SCUT and got Master degree and PhD degree in Control Theory and Application in 1989 and 1993, respectively. He became an Associate Professor in 1993 and Professor in 1998 at the Department of Automation of SCUT. From Nov. 1993 to Mar. 1995, sponsored by the British Council, he was a Visiting Scholar in Power Systems Group at the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering at the University of Strathclyde in Scotland, Britain. From November 2001 to October 2002, sponsored by the Ministry of Education of China, he served as a Guest Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, at New Mexico University, USA. After January 2001, he has been a project review expert in Automation for National Natural Science Foundation of China. Since 2001, he has been an expert entitled with the Special Subsidy by the State Department of China. In Oct. 2003, he was promoted as an IEEE Senior Member. Since 2008, he has been a Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Control Theory and Applications.
