Biography
Pingzhi Fan received his MSc degree in Computer Science from the Southwest Jiaotong University, PRC, in 1987, and Ph.D. degree in Electronic Engineering from the Hull University, U.K., in 1994. From 1994 to 1997, he worked for Hull University and Leeds University (UK) as a postdoctoral and research fellow. He is a visiting/guest professor for Leeds University (UK, 1997-), Mikkeli Polytechnic (Finland, 1996), Georgia State University (USA, 2001), FernUniversity (Germany, 2002), National Chonbuk University (Korea, 2003), Tsukuba University (Japan, 2005), and Shanghai Jiaotong University (China, 1999-). He is currently a distinguished professor of the Southwest Jiaotong University, the director of the institute of mobile communications, and the director of the International Cooperation Research Centre "Communications & Sensor Networks for Modern Transportation (CSNMT)" (Ministry of Sci & Tech, China). He is a recipient of the UK ORS Award (1992), the Outstanding Young Scientist Award by NSFC (1998). He was the chief scientist of a national 973 research project (MoST, 2012-2016), IEEE VTS Distinguished Lecturer (2015-2019), and a fellow of IEEE, IET, CIE and CIC.
Research Interest
Dr Fan’s research interests include: high mobility vehicular communications, 5G technologies, wireless networks for big data, signal design for wireless communications, information theory & coding, etc.
