Biography
As an Australian Physiotherapy Association Titled Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist with over 19 years of clinical experience, Michael is a highly qualified physiotherapist with expert knowledge and skills in all areas of musculoskeletal practice. After graduating from the University of Sydney in 1995, Michael worked in the public health system for 4 years in both Australia and the UK. Upon returning to Sydney he entered private physiotherapy practice and during the seasons of 2000 and 2001, he was a physiotherapist for the Wests Tigers Rugby League Club. In 2002 he became an associate partner of a busy private practice where he regularly worked with high level triathletes, cyclists and distance runners. In 2009 Michael returned to the UK to work as an Extended Scope Practitioner where his expertise was sought on complex musculoskeletal cases and his practice extended beyond the recognised scope of physiotherapy practice. After returning to Australia, Michael completed his Masters Degree in Manual Therapy at The University of Western Australia in 2011 where he received the prize for top student in the subject of Rehabilitation Science. In 2012 he opened The Runner's Physio which focused on running gait assessments, technique modification, exercise prescription and programming, and treating clients’ running related injuries. Prior to moving to Hong Kong in October 2015, Michael was busy managing The Runner’s Physio and consulting more broadly at two other physiotherapy clinics in Sydney. Michael uses manual therapy exclusively to treat his clients and invests in educating them regarding the pathology and physiology of their particular condition to ensure they understand their role during the recovery process. Michael’s professional philosophy is firmly entrenched in sound patient-centered clinical reasoning, accurate diagnosis/classification and high-quality manual therapy selection and exercise prescription. His clinical decisions are influenced by current evidence-based research which he enjoys keeping up to date with. Formerly an NRL grade rugby league player in Sydney, Michael practices what he preaches and is dedicated to his own health and fitness. Upon hanging up his boots, his focus shifted to triathlon then distance running and now to road cycling. He also continues to enjoy a rigorous regime of high intensity strength training.
