Biography
Bian Guowu is currently working as professor in Department of parasitology, has obtained his Ph D. of molecular Parasitology in Sun Yat -Sen University. He has almost ten years of postdoctoral experience in molecular biology research in the USA. During 2003-2006, he worked as a postdoctoral research associate in Department of Entomology, University of California, Riverside, where his research focused on illuminating mosquito immune pathways and genetically modifying mosquito immune system to control mosquito-borne diseases. During 2007-2012, he was a senior postdoctoral research associate in Microbiology and Molecular Genetics at Michigan State University. He conducted projects on understanding the interaction of Wolbachia, pathogens and mosquitos. These projects also included classifying mosquito immune pathways and factors interfering with pathogens. Most importantly, he utilized Wolbachia as effector and gene driver to biologically control mosquito-borne diseases.
Research Interest
Being a well-trained researcher with a strong research background in molecular genetics, immunology, virology and vector biology, he published research papers as first author in Science, Proceeding of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS) and PLos pathogens.
