Biography

Ph.D., professor, chairman of the department of biochemistry in Zhongshan school of medicine, Sun Yat-Sen University. He got Ph.D. degree of biochemistry in Sun Yat-Sen University of medical sciences in 1997. He pursued post-doctoral research in the United States of America during January 1999 into May 2002, focusing on the mechanism and treatment of neovascularization in diabetic retinopathy. After return to China in June 2002, the research interest for pathological angiogenesis was broadened to the field of both solid tumors and diabetes mellitus. Total 40 SCI-listed papers have been published related to the above research work, in which the corresponding author papers are 20 and the first author papers are 4. These publications have been cited by other investigators over 500 times, and the most single paper citation is 138 times.

Research Interest

The main academic contributions in the past years include: Develop a retinal neovascularization rat model. Confirm the importance of endogenous angiogenic inhibitors in the process of angiogenesis. Prove the hypothesis in which imbalance between endogenous angiogenic stimulators and inhibitors is the fundamental mechanism of angiogenesis. Find the inhibitory effects of plasminogen kringle 5 (K5), KBP and PEDF on angiogenesis in several types of diseases such as retinal, corneal neovascularization and various solid tumors, the underlying mechanism of these endogenous angiogenic inhibitors is through adjusting the imbalance of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and pigment epithelium derived factor (PEDF). Define the protein structural features of K5 for its anti-angiogenic activity. Discover the products of glucose and lipid metabolic abnormality activate the classic Wnt signal pathway and block of the classic Wnt signal pathway could alleviate fibrosis in diabetic retinopathy and renopathy.
