Liao Junping

Biography

Professor Liao Junping has been working for Lingnan （University）College, Sun Yat-sen University since 1995, once as the Deputy Director of Department of Business Management, and now as the Director of Institute of Real Estate Studies. Prof. Liao mainly focuses on real estate economics and housing policy. He is responsible for the courses of Real Estate Economics and Real Estate Appraisal in Lingnan College. Prof. Liao graduated from Zhejiang University and obtained his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering in July, 1983. He worked for Wuhan Institute of Urban Construction in different positions for 12 years, where he and his colleagues founded the first Department of Urban and Real Estate Management in China, in 1985. He also worked for some institutions as part time consultant at that time. During the working period he studied as a full time postgraduate in Tongji University, Shanghai, from 1986 to 1989 and obtained his master’s degree in management science and engineering. In 2007, he obtained the PhD degree in economics from Lingnan College, Sun Yat-sen University. Prof. Liao was visiting scholar in Hong Kong Polytechnic University (1997), Springfield College (2001), Sloan School of Management in Massachusetts Institute of Technology (2010). Prof. Liao is a senior and active member of China Institute of Real Estate Appraisers and Agents (CIREA). He is the initiating member of the Board of Directors of CIREA since 1994 and then worked for the Institute as Deputy Secretary-general since 1998. He was elected as Vice President by the Second Session of the Institute in 2005. He also served the Guangzhou Society of Real Estate Appraisers as the President (2004-2010). He established the Guangzhou Association of Real Estate Agents as initial President in 2010. He is the Deputy Chief Editor of the Journal of China Real Estate Appraisers and Agents. He is the main author of the National Standard “The Code for Real Estate Appraisal” issued in 1999. As the Designated Specialist of The Ministry of Housing and Urban-rural Development of The People’s Republic of China, he has been broadening his research scope to real estate brokerage, real estate finance, and other relative areas. He has published more than 80 papers on different journals of economics and those of real estate studies. As the representative of CIREA to several international organizations such as FIG, WAVO, IPTI, IAAO, Prof. Liao frequently involves in many events of the organizations, as well as attends many international conferences as speakers or panelist every year. At the 35th FIG General Assembly held in Rome, April, 2012, Prof. Liao was elected as the Chairman of Commission 9 (Real Estate Valuation and Real Estate Management) for 2015-2018.
