Biography
Song Bin s Associate Professor, Master supervisor of the Department of Pharmacology, Zhongshan School of Medicine,SunYat-SenUniversity. She received her Ph.D. degree in pharmacology fromSunYat-SenUniversityin 2008. Dr. Song’s main academic contributions include: 1) identification of CaMKII as the upstream kinases of GSK-3β Ser9 and clarification of the molecular mechanism underlying neuronal survival mediated by depolarization; 2) identification of caspase-3 as the pro-apoptotic target genes of JNK/c-Jun; 3) demonstrating that c-Jun is not the target gene of Egr-1; 4) clarifying the role of ERK1/2 in neuronal survival and apoptosis. Understanding the cellular function and regulatory mechanism of these key pro-apoptotic pathways will contribute to clarify the molecular basis of neuronal apoptosis and identify new neuroprotective agents for PD. Dr. Song has published 11 articles, including 4 first-author articles on J Biol Chem, Neuroscience Letters and Neuroreport. As principle investigator, Dr. Song has obtained the National Natural Science Foundation of China Grants; China Postdoctoral Science Foundation; Research Fund for the Doctoral Program of Higher Education of China and Natural Science Foundation of Guangdong Province, China. As the 4th contributor, Dr. Song won the First Prize of College of Science and Technology Award (Chinese Ministry of Education) and the First Prize of Guangdong Science and Technology Progress Award in 2011.
Research Interest
Her research mainly focuses on the signaling transduction and gene regulation of neuronal apoptosis and the development of new therapeutic targets for the treatment of Parkinson’s disease (PD).
