Research Interest
Professor Xu’s research mainly focuses on the mitochondrial mechanism of senescence. His major academic contributions in the past years include: a) developing a research model of platelet degeneration after ovariectomy; b) finding the mechanism underlying mitochondrial degeneration of platelets and neurons after estrogen deprivation; c) investing the mechanism that estrogen and plant estrogen(such as bilobalide) have anti-aging effects on mitochondrial degeneration of platelets and neurons after ovariectomy, inferring that plant estrogen can replace estrogen to prevent and treat senile dementia; d) exploring the protective effects of estrogen on neurons and its mechanism during brain ischemia-reperfusion injury; e) investing the effects of β-Sitosterol on the release of amyloid-β induced by high cholesterol, prompting that phytosterols may have the potential to prevent Alzheimer’s disease
