Biography
Dr. Gao Yuan (Austin Y. Gao) is the Research Associate at the Department of Philosophy (Zhuhai campus), Sun Yat-Sen University. He obtained his PhD in Philosophy and Theology from University of Helsinki, Finland, in 2015. He is the first PhD in Philosophy and Theology appointed by China Scholarship Council in Finland with a Sino-Finnish doctoral programme “Western Classics, Augustine and Medieval Studies” in cooperation with Academy Professor Simo Knuuttila and Chair Professor Miikka Ruokanen. The systematic results have been reflected in his English-language monograph Freedom from Passions in Augustine. His main interests lie in the study of Moral and Political Philosophy, Dogmatics and Systematic Theology, Augustine and Medieval Studies, Philosophy of Emotions/Mind, as well as the Comparative Studies of Sino-Western Philosophy (esp. the dialogue between Finnish Lutheran-Augustinian School and Chinese Philosophy/Religions).
