Zhou Jie

Biography

Dr.Zhou Jie is currently working as a Professor of Immunology, Zhongshan School of Medicine, Sun Yat-sen University. Dr. Zhou got her Ph.D degree in Pathology & Pathophysiology in Xiangya School of Medicine, Central South Univerisity in 2004. She did her postdoctoral training in University of Pittsburgh and H.Lee Moffitt Cancer Center in the United States from Sep, 2004 to Sep, 2009. She was recruited as full-professor and principle investigator (PI) in the Institute of Human Virology in Sun Yat-sen University from 2010 to now. Her major scientific achievements include: demonstrate the essential role of cross-talk between Notch and beta-catenin/Wnt signal pathways in the regulation of dendritic cell differentiation (Immunity, 2009); uncover the participation of MDSCs in HIV-1-infection mediated immune deficiency and the associated clinical significance（J Virol., 2013). As principle investigator, she has obtained 3 grants from National Natural Science Foundation, 1 grant from Natual Science Foundation of Guangdong Provicine. She also participate in other grants from the central and local goverments as co-PI. Dr. Zhou has published 28 publications, with the total citations is over 1000 (till Feb,2014).

Research Interest

Dr. Zhou’s current research focuses on the mechanism studies about immune cell differentiation and the associated pathological significance: 1) Investigate the molecular mechanism regulating of dendritic cell (DC) differentiation; 2) Explore the mechanisms regulating the expansion of myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSC) in cancer and other diseases; 3) Study the clinical significance of MDSCs in human viral infectious diseases.
