Biography

Araba is a Principal Research Fellow at UNU-CS. She was previously a Research Assistant Professor (Information School) and part-time lecturer (Department of Communication) at the University of Washington. Since 2008 she has been studying the uses and perceived impacts of public access computing in a variety of national contexts. Other research interests include industry and user appropriation of mobile phones in low and middle-income countries, decent work and micro-enterpreneurship in the mobile phone industry, recreational uses of ICTs in emerging economies, ICT training and employability, digital and social inclusion, and communicative ecologies. Araba sits on the editorial board of Mobile Media and Communication journal and is an Associate Editor for the ITID journal.
