Biography

Zexaing Chen (1970) received  his Ph. D degree in Physical Electronics in 2001 at the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China(UESTC). In May of 1994, he joined school of Opto-electronic Information, UESTC to work on dislay technology, and was awarded  “1st Prize for S&T Progress of the Ministry of Electronics” in 1996, “2nd National Prize for Technological Invention in 1998” and “1ST HUAWEI Prize” in 1999. Between March 2003 and Dec.  2004 he did post-doctoral research in Philips Research Laboratories Aachen, Germany, supervised by Research Fellow Peter k Bachmann on carbon nanotube growth and applications, participating  the NACBO FP6 EU sponsored research programme. From Jan. 2006 to Feb. 2008, Zexiang Chen joined Peter’s research group again in Philips Research Laboratories Aachen to work in  “carbon nanotube emitter for X-ray tube application” program. In spring 2008, upon returning to UESTC, as a professor, Zexiang Chen constructed Carbon Nanomaterial and Device Lab at UESTC, and was supported by the Program for New Century Excellent Talents in University in 2009. He published 60 papers on carbon materials and applicaitons in recent years and 5 patents were authorized. His lab is focusing on carbon nanotube growth,  carbon nanotube emitters, CNT-based X-ray imaging,  carbon nanomaterial based supercapacitors and batteries, fabrication of graphene and its application in optoelectronic devices, dye-sensitized solar cells  etc.

Research Interest

Carbon nanotube and Graphene preparation and related applications, especially in field emission, supercapacitors, sensors and optoelectronic detectors.  Carbon nanotube based vacuum electron devices.
