Biography

Dr Jian Yang is currently an Assistant Professor in Mechanical Engineering at The University of Nottingham, Ningbo campus, China (UNNC). He obtained his PhD from University of Southampton UK in the area of nonlinear mechanical vibrations. Prior to that, he did his BEng in Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering from Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST), Wuhan, China.  Before taking the current position at UNNC, Dr Yang worked in the Department of Aerospace Engineering, University of Bristol, as a research fellow working on aeroelasticity and morphing aircraft wing structures, funded by European Union Clean Sky and Framework 7 projects. Dr Yang has been a member of ASME (American Institute of Mechanical Engineers), a member of AIAA (American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics), a member of IIAV (International Institute of Acoustics and Vibration) and a referee for a number of international journals. He is currently the PI of a NSFC project working on the power flow characteristics of nonlinear vibration isolation systems.

Research Interest

Nonlinear dynamics and oscillations Passive and active vibration & noise control Vibration and acoustics of advanced composite structures Vibration power flow analysis of nonlinear dynamical systems Aeroelasticity & Morphing adaptive wing structures Structural static / dynamic analysis; Smart structures Design and analysis of engineering structures, especially aircraft and ship structures
