Biography
Dr Jun Lu is an architect and a researcher with expertise in architectural design (particularly in healthcare facility design), reviewing / developing the building design guidance, applying the ergonomics methods to architectural design and research. She has been working in the field of healthcare facility research and design since 2003. The projects have been carried out including: Review and validation of the UK NHS hospital design guidance – Health Building Notes (HBNs) in the forms of ergonomics drawings of acute adult / ICU bed rooms and en-suite toilets for their functionality and usability. Developing and testing functional dimensions for specified clinical activities in typical (generic) rooms, under the research collaboration with an NHS Trust. Development of a flexible design approach to the high quality healthcare spaces and layouts so as to improve the staff efficiency and the patient safety and facilitate the future changes. Investigation of the relationship between evidence and design in order to deliver principles, processes and tools that ensure that design directs the needs for research and in turn that the research supports the evidence-based design. Dr Lu has a strong research interest in promoting a healing and sustainable environment through evidence-based design (EBD), and is also interested in post occupancy evaluation (POE), participatory design for urban environments and individual buildings, workspace optimisation. Dr Lu has been involved in a lot of professional activities as a paper reviewer for the academic journals and international conferences, a guest editor of the Health Environments Research and Design Journal (HERD), a Scientific Committee member of the HaCIRIC International Conference 2011.
