Biography
Michele Geraci is Head of China Economic Policy Program and Assistant Professor of Finance at Nottingham University Business School, China; Head of China at the Global Policy Institute and Senior Research Fellow and Adjunct Professor of Finance at Zhejiang University, Hangzhou. At NUBS, Zheda, and other Chinese Universities, Michele teaches finance-related courses in both English and Chinese. His research work is aimed at Chinese policy makers, corporations and foreign investors, with a focus on the structure of the Chinese economy and how to rebalance it, including optimum fiscal and monetary policies, income disparity, urbanisation, land reforms, hukou system, rural finance, Chinese financial and banking system and RMB convertibility. He has also been heavily involved in the Euro-zone debt crisis advising Chinese and foreign entities. Previously, he completed a study on the microcredit industry aimed at Chinese policy makers. Michele is a frequent guest speaker at conferences and forums; he was invited twice to The Economist’s China Summit and was a guest speaker at the Global Think tank Summit, organised by CCIEE. He makes frequent media appearances on TV talk shows (CNN, CNBC, Bloomberg, China Central Television etc) and is a regular columnist for China Daily and Caixin Magazine. Michele Geraci is a Managing Director-level investment banker with vast international experience having worked over the last 20 years in Fund Management, Equity Research, Corporate Finance, Management Consultancy, and as a Telecom Engineer across Europe, Latin America and Asia. While at Merrill Lynch, he was amongst the first bankers to privatise government-owned enterprises in Eastern Europe, thus contributing to the development of the capital markets in that region. He was later appointed Head of Latin American telecom research at Donalson Lufkin and Jenrette, and Head of European telecom research at Bank of America where he further consolidated his interest in emerging market economies. More recently, he worked at Schroders Investment Management, as part of a team managing US$20bn of assets. Michele holds an MBA from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Sloan School of Management in the US, and an MA in electronic engineering from the University of Palermo in Italy. He is also currently carrying out his research for a PhD in Economics.
