Biography

Professor Lianxi Zhou is an Associate Professor in Corporate Governance and Corporate Social Responsibility at Nottingham University Business School China. He is also the Director of Undergraduate Programmes at Nottingham University Business School China. Previously he held a faculty position at the School of Management and Governance of the University of Twente, and was senior research associate at the Center for Clean Technology and Environmental Policy (CSTM) at the University of Twente.  His research broadly covers business-government-society interaction in the areas of energy innovation and sustainable business strategies. He received post-doctoral grants from the Dutch Science Foundation and was involved in two EU framework program funded research projects on innovation, particularly energy innovation. He has published numerous articles, books, book chapters and reports on innovation in Chinese SMes, system innovation in the energy system, sociotechnical scenarios for energy system innovation, governance of innovation, and sustainable business strategies in academic journals such as asia-pacific journal of management, energy policy, technology analysis and strategic management, business strategy and the environment, journal of cleaner production, and innovation: management, policy and practice. He was an advisor to the Dutch Energy Council regarding innovativeness in the energy sector. He has conducted comparative research on sustainable innovation in business and the role of policy, funded by the European Union, and evaluated policy and technology programs for Dutch Ministries of Environmental and Economic Affairs. His current research focuses on corporate social responsibility and energy innovation in China and he recently co-organised a conference on Corporate Social Responsibility in China at NUBS China with the International Centre for Corporate Social Responsibility (ICCSR) of the University of Nottingham. He currently holds three research grants in the areas of eco-innovation in Chinese firms, finance and diffusion of energy technologies, and corporate social responsibility and human resource management in Chinese firms.

Research Interest

Dr Hofman’s research broadly covers business-government-society interaction in the areas of energy innovation and sustainable business strategies. He was an advisor to the Dutch Energy Council regarding innovativeness in the energy sector. Current research centers on innovation in Chinese firms, the shaping of corporate social responsibility and stakeholder engagement strategies in China, and corporate responses to climate change in China. He currently holds two research grants from Chinese funding organization
