Hu Bing

Biography

Hu Bing, professor and Ph.D. supervisor at USTC, is selected into CAS Hundred Talents Program. He graduated from USTC and obtained Bachelor Degree of Biophysics in 1989, Master Degree of Biophysics in 1992 and Doctoral Degree from Shanghai Institute of Physiology of Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1999 (jointly trained by Shanghai Institute of Physiology of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Medical Faculty of the University of Hong Kong). In 2001 he served as postdoctoral fellow at Department of Anatomy, Medical Faculty of the University of Hong Kong; from January 2002 to November 2004 he served as postdoctoral fellow at University of California, Los Angeles & Irvine). In 2007, before he was selected into CAS Hundred Talents Program, he served as Research Officer at Department of Anatomy, Medical Faculty of the University of Hong Kong. Over the years he has studied Developmental Neurobiology and the repair mechanisms underlying neural damage and published 30 academic papers in SCI journals. His papers have been cited by others more than 700 times. He once made detailed research on localization and function of p75 and Trks neurotrophin receptors in the retina of the adult SD rat (published in Glia, 1998), BDNF increases synapse density in dendrites of developing tectal neurons in vivo (published in Development, 2005-2006) and LINGO-1 antagonist promotes spinal cord remyelination and axonal integrity in MOG-induced experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (published in Nature Medicine, 2007). In the autumn of 2007 he established an independent research laboratory at USTC, and did mechanism research of nerve growth, synapses development and damage repair in model animals-xenopus and zebrafish with bioluminescence in-vivo imaging technology. In 1997 he won the Second Prize of Natural Sciences Award of Chinese Academy Sciences and Best Research Output Award of University of Hong Kong for the year 2007-2008. In 2009 he won the third prize of the Third PharmaTech Life and Chemistry Research Award.
