Biography

Maikun Teng, Professor and Ph.D. supervisor. At present he holds the position of deputy Dean of School of Life Sciences, USTC. At the same time he also serves as Secretary General of Guiding Committee for Biological Science and Engineering of Ministry of Education, Standing Director for the Chinese Society of Biophysical Society, the Chinese Society of Biochemistry and Molocular Biology and the the Chinese Society of Toxicology, Director for the Committee of Biological Toxin & Toxicology, the Chinese Society of Toxicology. As a visiting scholar, he once went to Department of Biology, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (October 1986-June 1988), Department of Physiology and Biophysics, University of Illinois, Urbana and Champaign (July 1988 to July 1989), Department of Life Sciences of Purdue University (1992) and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (August 1996 to November 1997), etc for further study and academic exchange. He has been engaged in teaching and researches in Protein Crystallography and Structural Biology for many years. Currently he is doing research in related protein of gene transcription regulation in eukaryota, sorting and transferring related protein of yeast and toxin protein from snake venom. He once did researches on crystallogphy for DNA-oligonucleotide and DNA-drug complexes, Virus, T-cell receptors and complexes and protein engineering of glucose isomerase, etc. In recent years he has presided or participated in the research for numerous major research subjects from Ministry of Science and Technology, National Natural Science Foundation of China and Chinese Academy of Science. The “Study on Protein Engineering of Glucose Isomerase” won the Second Prize of Higher Education Award in Science and Technology of Ministry of Education in 2001, and won the First Prize of Scientific and Technological Progress Award of Education Department of Anhui Province in 2000. At present the research subjects he presides and participates in include subjects under the “973 Program”, National Natural Science Foundation of China and Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Research Interest

We are interested in gene transcription regulation, especially the functional complexes which playing the essential roles during the transcription elongation and pre-mRNA processing process. We are interested in DNA damage repair process, especially the Post-replication Repair pathway and Fanconi Anemia Repair pathway. We also focus on the structural basis of the vesiculation and vesicular tansport process. We are interested in the structure, dynamics, and function of protein, RNA, and interactions between protein-protein, protein-nucleic acid, protein-ligand. We try to understand the principle underlie the molecular recognition, and to elucidate biological implications of these interactions.
