Biography
He received the Ph.D degree in electrical engineering from Xi'an Jiaotong University, Xi'an, China in 2001. He held the post of Postdoctoral in Xi'an Jiaotong University from 2003 to 2005. He worked for global research center Shanghai of General Electric company from 2001 to 2002. Since 2003, he has been working in state key laboratory of electrical insulation and power equipment, department of electrical engineering, Xi'an Jiaotong University, Xi'an, China. Now he is a professor in Xi'an Jiaotong University. He is primarily involved with research on vacuum arc theory and development of transmission voltage level vacuum circuit breakers. He has published over 150 technical papers and he hold more than 20 Chinese patents. He is a member of current zero club. He is a member of CIGRE working group A3.27 "The impact of the application of vacuum switchgear at transmission voltages" and a member of CIGRE working group JWG A3/B4.34 "Technical requirements and specifications of state-of-the-art DC switching equipment". He is a member of guest editor committee of IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery Special issue on "Power Switchgear Technology and Applications", September, 2014.
Research Interest
Prof. Dr. Zhiyuan Liu is one of the major contributors in the research field in transmission voltage level vacuum circuit breaker in China. His team developed the first 126kV/2500A/40kA single-break vacuum circuit breaker in China, which passed type test in 2013. The contribution is toward to reduce SF6 gas usage in high voltage switchgear. SF6 gas is a strong global warming effect gas pointed by Kyoto protocol. In the field of transmission voltage level vacuum circuit breaker, he held more than 20 Chinese patents. He published more than 150 technical papers, mainly in the field of vacuum circuit breaker, including vacuum arc, vacuum insulation, operating mechanism ect.
