Biography

Louis N. Christofides received a Ph.D. from the University of British Columbia in 1973. Between 1972 and 2002 he was on faculty at the University of Guelph, Canada, serving as Chair of the Department of Economics between 1987 and 1997. Between 2002 and 2006 he served as Chair of the Department of Economics, and between 2006 and 2011 as Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Management, both at the University of Cyprus. He is a Research Associate of CESifo and a Research Fellow of IZA. He has served as a referee to numerous academic journals, universities and granting agencies in Canada (SSHRC), the US (NSF), and the EU (ESF) and as a consultant to governmental entities in Canada and the European Union. He is currently University Professor Emeritus at the University of Guelph, in Canada, and Professor Emeritus at the University of Cyprus.

Research Interest

Labour, Macroeconomics, and Applied Econometrics, particularly wage and employment determination, the incidence and intensity of wage indexation, contract duration, unemployment insurance, job duration, participation in social assistance programs and labour supply, low-inflation wage adjustments, language proficiency and the labour market, and the economics of education.
