Biography

Dr. Sotiris Kalogirou comes from the Trachona of the Nicosia District. He is married and has two children. He received his first degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Higher Technical Institute (1982) Master ( MPhil ) in Engineering from the University of Wales (1991) and his doctorate ( Ph . D ) in Engineering from the University of Glamorgan , Wales, United Kingdom (1995). In June 2011 he was awarded the title of D . Sc . from the University of Glamorgan , Wales, United Kingdom. He worked as a Mechanical Engineer at Intersol Engineering from 1982-1987 and at various positions at the Higher Technological Institute in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Laboratory Department from 1987 to 2007. In 2008 he joined the Cyprus University of Technology and now he is a Professor in Mechanical Engineering. He is internationally regarded as one of the specialists in the field of solar thermal collectors, hybrid photovoltaic / thermal systems and the use of Technical Intelligence systems to predict the performance of energy and solar thermal systems.He is a member of the Chartered Engineer (CIBSE), Chartered Engineer (C.Eng), member of FEANI (Eur Ing), a member of the ASESE (American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Engineers) International Solar Energy Society) and member of the Institute of Refrigeration (IoR).

Research Interest

Research Interests Solar thermal collectors (flat, integrated and centralized), hot water and hot water systems, hybrid photovoltaic / thermal systems, computational simulation and optimization of solar systems, desalination of seawater using solar energy, use of artificial intelligence systems to predict the efficiency of energy and solar thermal systems, energy savings, absorption chillers, geothermal systems and thermal behavior of buildings.
