Biography

Stephan Stylianou (PhD in Sociology, University of Washington-Seattle, 2000, MA in Sociology, University of Washington-Seattle, 1996, BA with Highest Diploma in Sociology, Hofstra University, 1993, Diploma of Education, Pedagogical Academy of Cyprus, 1989) Associate Professor at the Department of Communication and Internet Studies at the Cyprus University of Technology. She has taught subjects of sociology, criminology and social research methodology in undergraduate and postgraduate audiences as a lecturer (University of Washington, 1996-2000), expert scientist (University of Cyprus, 2000-2003) and permanent academic staff (Intercollege, 2000-2007, University of Nicosia, 2007-2010 and Cyprus University of Technology 2010-). His research activity focuses mainly on the cognitive field of social deviation of crime and social control and has a strong methodological orientation. Among the research programs he has recently participated as a scientific officer is a national study of juvenile delinquency, the epidemiology of the use of psychoactive substances in Cyprus, raven parties and the use of synthetic substances and the use of political symbols by young people in the public sphere of the Cypriot society. He has published articles in scientific journals and a book titled Juvenile Offenders and Cypriot Society (University of Nicosia, 2007).
