Katrine Hommelhoff Jensen

Biography

I received my Master's degree in Computer Science from the Department of Computer Science, University of Copenhagen, in 2006, specialising in (medical) imaging and 3D computer graphics. During and after my studies I worked as a 3D software developer for several years at e.g. 3Shape A/S, Copenhagen, and Follow-Me! Technology Systems GmbH, Munich. In 2011, I started on a PhD in biomedical imaging at the Image Section, Department of Computer Science, University of Copenhagen. My PhD project focused on statistical methods for single-particle cryo-EM – i.e. tomographic 3D reconstruction of proteins from electron microscopy projection images in which the angle is unknown and must be estimated as part of the reconstruction problem. The project was conducted in cooperation with Sigworth Lab, Yale School of Medicine, New Haven, USA. After obtaining my PhD degree, I joined Visual Computing Lab at the Alexandra Institute in January 2016. My professional interests boil down to image processing, computer vision and 3D computer graphics, especially 3D imaging and reconstruction, shape analysis, mathematical modelling and statistical inversion. I have used them on e.g. tomographic reconstruction of proteins, segmentation of teeth from CT data, reconstructing the lack of surfaces in the 3D meshes as well as 3D computer vision-based robot navigation.
