Thomas Gilbert

Biography

I have an engineering degree from 2006 and during the first 2 years I worked with development and maintenance of Oracle databases on UNIX. From 2008 to 2009 I taught students at VIA University College in advanced database theory and application of Oracle RDBMS. From 2008 to 2013 I worked with healthcare IT, including the development of service components on top of legacy mainframe code, integration of 3 party software etc. Furthermore, my job was to design sustainable solutions that - based on user needs and customer requirements – could gain maximum benefit from the technical platform. Currently, I am helping business transition to micro service architectures and embrace new ways of thinking development and operations. I am an eager advocate of using DOCKER technology where it makes sense, and moving architecture towards message queues and stream processing. Developing systems that scale has never been easier, but it often requires a new way of thinking - and a new way of developing. A lot of the time, it is easier to show something rather than explain something. A lot of my time is spent developing prototypes and showing off concepts that can be built on or extended by customers. To achieve this, I have made applications in NodeJS, Go, C#, Swift, Java etc. In my mind, it is about choosing the right tool for the job - and there has never been this many great tools to choose from.
