Biography
y PhD project focuses on processes of justification and critique in contemporary welfare reforms towards unemployed people in Europe. It compares political reforms concerning the government of unemployed persons in France, Denmark and the UK partly and over time by an analysis of the debates influencing the reforms and partly by a study policy changes (benefits, job training, education, surveillance, counselling, etc.) the reforms introduce. The objective of the project is first to identify which moral categories political actors enact in reforming welfare and second to compare the relative weight carried by these categories as well as how they are they are integrated in the reform policies. My hope is that the project can provide a more nuanced understanding of how moral frameworks are moulding and guiding welfare reforms and the government of unemployed persons in Europe and contribute to the understanding of the interrelation between the general European trend toward activation and employability in welfare policies and the remaining differences in national policies.
