Biography
My research comprises both basic and applied research involving structure and meaning in natural languages, particularly Danish and English. Among other things, my basic research investigates the possibility of translating hypotheses about linguistic structure and meaning into formal mathematical-logical representations suitable for use by computers. This is an important prerequisite for developing "intelligent" computersystems in a sense which comes anywhere near the human sense of intelligence since language forms the very basis on which the advanced human conceptual apparatus develops. In particular, on the applied side, I have worked in collaborative projects on systems for information retrieval and knowledge extraction from large text databases.
