Lars Rebien Sørensen

Biography

Lars Rebien Sørensen served as the Chief Executive Officer and President of Novo Nordisk A/S since November 2000 until December 31, 2016. Mr. Sørensen served as Chief Executive Officer and President of Danmarks Nationalbank. He served as an Equity Analyst at Handelsbanken Capital Markets, Research Division. Over the years, he has been stationed in several countries, including the Middle East and the United States. He has strong operational competencies and extensive knowledge within innovation, marketing and HR as well as substantial management experience including the management of a foundation-controlled company. He served as Chief Executive Officer and President at Novo Nordisk Inc. He joined Novo Nordisk A/S’s Enzymes Marketing in 1982. Mr. Sørensen served as the President of Novo Nordisk since November 2000. From 1994 to November 2000, he served as a Member of the Corporate Management at Novo Nordisk A/S and was given the special responsibility in Corporate Management for Health Care in December 1994. From 1989 to 1994, he served as the President of International Operations of Bioindustrial Group of Novo Nordisk A/S. He serves as the Director of Novo A/S since 2017. He has been the Chairman of Supervisory Board at Carlsberg Breweries A/S since April 28, 2017. He has been Deputy Chairman of Supervisory Board at Carlsberg A/S since 2015. He served as Deputy Chairman of Supervisory Board of Carlsberg Breweries A/S since April 17, 2015 until April 28, 2017. He has been an Independent Director of Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. since May 18, 2016. He serves as a Member of the Board of Scandinavian Airlines System AB. He served as a Member of the Supervisory Board at Bertelsmann SE & Co. KGaA since May 18, 2005 until May 5, 2015. He served as a Director of Thermo Fisher Scientific, Inc. from July 14, 2011 to July 1, 2015. He served as a Director at SAS AB from 2001 to April 2006. He served as a Director at Danmarks Nationalbank. He served as a Director at Zymogenetics Inc. from January 1996 to March 2010. He served as a Director at DONG Energy Power A/S since 2007. He served as a Member of Supervisory Board at DONG Energy AS since 2007. He served as a Director of DONG Energy AS from 2007 to April 18, 2012. Mr. Sørensen received the French award Chevalier de l'Ordre National de la Légion d'Honneur in 2005. In October 2007, he became an Adjunct Professor at the Faculty of Life Sciences of the University of Copenhagen. Mr. Sørensen holds an MSc in Forestry from the Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University, Denmark (now the Faculty of Science of the University of Copenhagen) from 1981 and a BSc in International Economics from the Copenhagen Business School from 1983.
