John Swindeman

Biography

John Swindeman received his Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Dayton, and worked for a brief period studying crack growth in metal-matrix composites at Wright Patterson Air Force Base. John began working at Nano Instruments in 1992, splitting his time between field installation of Nano Indenters, contract lab testing, and instrument design. Between 1991 and 1998 John wrote user manuals, conducted customer training, designed and built systems, and managed the computer network. During his time as a Design Engineer for Nano Instruments, John developed the Nano Indenter IIs, the DCM (Dynamic Contact Module), and was lead engineer for the development of the Nano Indenter XP. After MTS Systems’ acquisition of Nano Instruments in 1998, John became R&D Manager, a position he held until 2004, when he accepted the Operations Manager position with MTS Nano Instruments. As R&D Manager, John led a number of projects and successful product introductions. Among these products was the Nano UTM (Nano Bionix), a nano-scale tensile/compression testing system.
