Biography
Mark Vincent Hurd has been the Chief Executive Officer of Oracle Corporation since September 17, 2014. Mr. Hurd oversees the corporate direction and strategy for Oracle's global field operations, including marketing, sales, consulting, alliances and channels and support. He focuses on strategy, leadership, innovation and customers. He is also responsible for Oracle's global business units for industries, which build products for specific industries such as telecommunications, financial services, health sciences, retail, utilities and public sector. He served as the President of Oracle Corporation from September 6, 2010 to September 17, 2014. Mr. Hurd joined Oracle in 2010. He served as Executive Chairman of HP Inc. (Also known as Hewlett-Packard Co.) from September 22, 2006 to August 2010 and served as its Chief Executive Officer and President from April 1, 2005 to August 2010. Mr. Hurd sharpened HP's strategic focus and concentrated its R&D investments on three long-term growth opportunities: next-generation enterprise data center architecture and services, technologies for always connected, always personal mobile experiences and a broad transition from analog to digital imaging and printing across the consumer, commercial and industrial markets. At the same time, Mr. Hurd improved HP's operating efficiency and execution as well as its financial performance and customer focus. Prior to joining HP, he spent 25 years at NCR Corporation., where he served as the President of NCR Corporation. from July 2001 to March 2005 and also served as its Chief Executive Officer from March 14, 2003 to April 2005. From September 2002 to March 14, 2003, Mr. Hurd served as the Chief Operating Officer of NCR Corporation., and was responsible for driving the performance of its businesses - Retail Store Automation, Financial Self Service, Payment and Imaging, Worldwide Customer Services, Systemedia and Teradata Data Warehousing - and has been instrumental in formulating and executing strategies to maximize operating efficiencies and profitability. From July 2000 to March 2003, Mr. Hurd served as the Chief Operating Officer of the Teradata Division & Global Leader in enterprise data warehousing, analytic applications & data warehousing services and from July 2000 to July 2001 he served as an Executive Vice President of NCR Corp. He started his career at NCR Corp., as a Field Salesman in 1980, Mr. Hurd has held a series of sales and marketing positions with increasing management responsibility, including Senior Vice President of Teradata Solutions Group from 1998 to June 2000 and Vice President of Worldwide Marketing and Americas Professional Services Division, from 1994 to 1998. He has more than 30 years of technology industry leadership, computer hardware expertise and executive management experience. Mr. Hurd has been a Director of Oracle Corporation since September 6, 2010. He serves as a Director of Wright Center of Innovation. He serves as Director of Globality, Inc. He served as a Director of NCR Corp. from March 14, 2003 to April 12, 2005. He served as an Independent Director of Twenty-First Century Fox, Inc. (formerly News Corp.) from February 2008 to October 15, 2010. He served as an Executive Director of Hewlett-Packard Co. (HP) from April 1, 2005 to August 2010. He is a member of the Baylor University Board of Regents. He is a Member of the board of visitors for Duke University's Fuqua School of Business. Mr. Hurd serves as a Member of the Technology Chief Executive Officer Council, a coalition of Chairman and Chief Executive Officers of IT companies, which develops and advocates public policy positions on technology and trade issues. Mr. Hurd was listed as one of Forbes' Market's Best Managers for 2009. In 2007, Mr. Hurd was named one of Fortune Magazine's 25 Most Powerful People in Business. He was recognized multiple times by Business 2.0 magazine as one of the 50 Who Matter Now and by Barron's in its Best CEOs lists. The San Francisco Chronicle honored him as the 2008 CEO of the Year. He appeared on CRN's 25 Most Influential Executives list in three separate years and was twice one of CRN's Top 25 Executives. He has been honored with the 2012-2013 Baylor Meritorious Achievement Award—the Baylor Legacy Award—in recognition of his extraordinary service and philanthropy to Baylor. Mr. Hurd holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Baylor University in 1979.
