Biography
Dr. Othman obtained his B.Sc. in Architectural Engineering from Assiut University, Egypt in 1991. Since then he worked as an architect and project manager in different national and international architectural design firms and governmental authorities in Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. He earned his M.Sc. in “Human Resources Management in Construction†and Ph.D. in “Value and Risk Management in Construction†from Heriot-Watt University and Loughborough University, UK in 1999 and 2004 respectively. During the period from 2006 till 2009, Dr. Othman joined the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN), South Africa as a Senior Lecturer at the School of Civil Engineering, Surveying & Construction. He was involved in developing and teaching up-to-date Construction Management curriculum. In addition, he acted as a member of the Faculty Higher Degree Committee and School coordinator for research development. Since he joined the British University in Egypt (BUE) in 2009, Dr. Othman was involved in developing and teaching state-of-the-art Construction Management related modules in Architectural and Civil Engineering Departments. He successfully, supervised and graduated a number of Ph.D., Masters and Honours research students in Egypt and South Africa. In September 2012 and 2013, Dr. Othman was appointed the Deputy-Director of the Centre of Sustainability and Future Studies (CSFS) and the Director of the Architectural Engineering Programme respectively. Furthermore he is a Member of the Faculty Teaching and Learning Committee as well as Member of the Faculty Research Committee. Dr. Othman is an active researcher in the field of Construction Management. He publishes widely in national and international conferences and academic journals. To date he published 8 books and book chapters, 25 refereed journal papers and 40 conference papers. He is the Deputy-Editor of the Journal of Construction (JoC) and a registered referee and member of advisory board of a number of international academic journals. In July 2013, Dr. Othman was elected as a member of the Council of Association of Schools of Construction in Southern Africa (ASOCSA).
