Biography
Jasmin Makhlouf is a fresh graduate from the British University in Egypt and my BSc thesis “The Muslim Sisterhood Breaks Free: a Study on their Transition from Political Passivism to Political Activism in View of Social Movement Theory†argued that there is a home grown Feminism based in the Islamic Religious traditions. This new discourse aims to preserve the beliefs of Muslim women while engaging politically, economically, and culturally in the society. It examined, in light of Social Movement Theory, the Egyptian Muslim Sisterhood to identify the causes, nature, and ideas informing the transition of Muslim sisters from political passivism to political activism. Along her studies, she interned at the League of Arab States, worked as a freelance journalist, contributed to a number of online publications, and joined extra curriculum activities such as MUN, MAL, and ISLC. She has done BSc in Political Science at the British University in Egypt in collaboration with Loughborough University.
