Mamdouh Ayad Gadalla

Biography

Dr. Gadalla graduated originally with a B.Sc. and an M.Sc. in chemical engineering from Cairo University. He served in military as a First Lieutenant for two years, after which he worked as a research assistant at the Agency for Atomic Energy in Egypt. In 1997, Dr. Gadalla joined UAE University as a teaching assistant in the chemical and petroleum engineering department, for two years during which he obtained his masters in chemical process design for environment. Dr. Gadalla completed his PhD in Process Integration at the University of Manchester, England (2003). During his stay at Manchester, he participated in teaching a number of postgraduate courses with Professor Smith and Professor Jobson besides the execution of several research projects for international oil refining companies. After completing PhD, Dr. Gadalla was appointed as a Post-Doctoral Researcher at Delft University of Technology (Holland), where he worked on a European project on distillation development for better efficiency. During this stay, Dr. Gadalla contributed much to the literature in developing new approached for design of new distillation equipment with zero energy consumption. From 2005 till 2010, Dr. Gadalla joined Universitat Rovira i Virgili URV, Spain as a visiting professor and then as a Professor Lector, where he taught and supervise students in both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. In addition, he initiated an international collaboration between Cairo University and URV leading to a bi-lateral agreement for collaboration. In Spain, Dr. Gadalla received the accreditation of Professor Lector and Professor Agregado given by the Catalan Agency for Higher Education in Universities. He also achieved the recognition of an Active Researcher, a 6-year research experience and a 10-years teaching experience from the Catalan Agency for Research and Universitat Rovira i Virgili. In 2009, he was invited as a visiting researcher at Pretoria University, South Africa by Professor Majozi for a month. Dr. Gadalla published 63 research contributions to international journals, proceedings and international conferences. Dr. Gadalla is a reviewer for several international journals in chemical and environmental engineering. He supervised the completion of one PhD thesis and five masters’ theses, and more than 6 masters’ studies are underway.
