Biography
Dr. Sherif earned his B.Sc. in Civil Engineering in 2004 from Cairo University, followed by M.Sc. in 2007 from the same school in Geotechnical Engineering. During the first three years of his career he practiced civil engineering through working for a consulting firm as a designer of concrete and steel structures, a geotechnical engineer, and a site-supervisor on various projects. Mean while, he was working as a part-time teaching assistant at the American University in Cairo (AUC).Dr. Sherif then joined Iowa State University (ISU), USA, in 2007 as a research assistant studying towards his PhD. During his doctoral studies, he worked with a team on writing research proposals, and the team was granted a fund (around $1 million) from Iowa Highway Research Board (IHRB) and Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) –research project TR-573. Over the past four years, Dr. Sherif published a large number of technical papers in top ranked, prestigious, international journals in Civil Engineering such as the ASCE Journal of Bridge Engineering; the ASTM Geotechnical Testing Journal; the ASCE Journal of Geotechnical and Environmental Engineering; the ICE – Geotechnical Engineering; and the Journal of the Transportation Research Records (TRR). He joined the ASCE Journals peer review panel. From the professional activities perspective, Dr. Sherif served as the module leader responsible of teaching several modules (generally related to soil mechanics and geotechnical engineering) in the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the British University in Egypt (BUE), since 2010 until now. Although the relative recent join to the BUE, he was assigned several administrative tasks such as the Teaching and Learning Coordinator for the department, the Staff Development Coordinator, in addition to other administrative contributions that are Faculty related. As of September, 2013, he was promoted to Civil Engineering Programme Director.
