Biography
Dr. El-Idreesy received his B.Sc. (Distinction with Honors) in 1996 from the Faculty of Science, Cairo University (Chemistry Major) where he was appointed as a TA at the Department of Chemistry at the same university. He received his Ph.D. (Dr. rer. nat.) in 2005 from the University of Cologne, Germany (Distinction with Honors, summa cum laude). He is also the recipient of the Kurt-Alder Award for the best Ph.D. thesis in Chemistry in 2005 from the University of Cologne, Germany. In 2005, he was promoted to Assistant Professor of Organic chemistry at the Faculty of Science, Cairo University. In 2006, he joined the University of California at Davis, USA as a postdoctoral fellow and in 2009; he received the prestigious Fulbright Scholarship to join the University of Wyoming, USA as Fulbright visiting scholar. In recognition of his academic achievements, Dr. El-Idreesy received several awards such as the Cairo University Award in Basic Sciences (Chemistry) in 2009 and the Egyptian State Award in Chemistry in 2010. In 2012, he was promoted to Associate Professor and joined the British University in Egypt at the Department of Chemical Engineering.
Research Interest
• Synthesis of antimalarial and antiviral pharmaceutical compounds. • Photochemistry of singlet oxygen and Carbonyl compounds. • Photoelectron transfer sensitizers. • Heterocyclic synthesis for medicinal goals like Cystic-Fibrosis therapy. • Green Chemistry and Solvent-free approach using catalysts bound to polymer nanoparticles in organic synthesis.
