Biography
John Semple has a long association with Egypt. After graduating from Oxford University as a historian, he studied Islamic Art and Architecture with Professor Creswell at the American University in Cairo and worked as a research student with the celebrated architect, Hassan Fathy. He worked on several archaeological sites in Nubia, before the Building of the High Damn, and at Fustat. He then joined the British Council and has served as a director of several of their offices in The Sudan, Alexandria, The Yemen, Brunei, and Saudi Arabia, and was also Director of the British Council in the West of England (Bristol and Exeter). One of his many interests is exploring the deserts of Arabia and Egypt.
